Last days in north & joining Ellen and Doug in Kona

Emergency vehicles greet Doug & Ellen as they visit LAX for the second time!

Deanie and Eddie spent a few days in the north of the Big Island driving and sightseeing. We were able to see Mauna Kea(the hightpoint in North America) on a few cloudless days. It is stunning. We wanted to take the trip up the mountain, but 14,000 ft. was way too much for me to do.( I called Dr. King to ask him if I could take the trip and he said NO). Much too high for a person with a slight heart condition. Oh well!!Drove down the coast and it is so beautiful. We left the cottage on Jan 3 to go back to Kona and check into the house we have rented. We had found the house earlier in the trip so we knew exactly where to go. We were so pleased with the house!! It is beautiful, large and very well furnished. The pool is lovely and we spend most of out time outside.Doug and Ellen were  to arrive on Jan 4 at 5:30 p.m. Hawaii time. Well, that did not happen. Of all of the flights in the world. Doug and Ellen's flight got 45 min. out of L.A. and had to turn around because of leaking hydrolic fluid!! Of course, we had told Doug for years that the trip was no big deal.WRONG. They stayed in L.A. for hrs. before Delta sent a plane from Maui to get them to Kona. They arrived at 2:05 a.m. and they were very tired. We sat outside and were drinking beer at 4:00 a.m. What a day. At least they got here safe and sound. We are enjoying the house and going sightseeing, and Eddie and Doug are playing golf at Kona Country Club.

  3. The flight sounds a little more exciting than I would want. I am sure Doug felt that way! The house looks wonderful and I know you all are enjoying the Hawaiian beaches and sunsets. You are missing all the snow we are having. That must make you feel left out. HaHa. I am enjoying the blog and especially the pictures. Have fun and be safe!!
